KIN 856 Physical Bases of Coaching (Summer 2009)
Professor: Brown
Kinesiology, psychology, legal issues, vector analysis, and other principles of coaching were explored in this extremely challenging but rewarding class. The areas of study proved to be invaluable and relevant to the athletes and to the coaching staff which I work with. Examining coaching practices, with an emphasis on safe and effective instruction was a major point of emphasis. I have included an example of circuit training for swimmers. The circuit considers the Krebs cycle, ATP-CP production, anaerobic training, and muscle memorization.

TE 865 Teaching & Learning K-12 Social Studies (Summer 2010)
Instructor: Holohan
This course focused on the state of the world, social studies education, and my role in both. I examined how I invited my students to understanding Social Studies. Some interesting lessons included creating a Google Lit Trip for Art Spielgeman's Maus. I have included my final paper. The final paper examined how my classroom instruction needs to be able to critically look at bias within texts, technology, diverse citizenship, critical geography, and global issues. It is through careful examination of these specific issues regarding diverse student bodies that I arrived at a greater appreciation for social studies.

Learning, understanding, and then making meaningful accommodations for students who struggle with literacy was the main goal of this course. Learning the importance of fluency, decoding, and the struggles of English Language Learners was rewarding and relevant. I have included my literacy project in which I worked with one of my swimmers who struggled with fluency and decoding skills. The paper captured the personal side of how frustrating reading can be to students with reading disabilities and yet it shows how fluency and comprehension can be improved.
